The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is rewarding “E” for effort, actually, Triple E--for Energy Efficiency Effort, and the first award goes to XYMOGEN, an Orlando owned and operated small business. With its new cost-effective energy efficient building, the company represents what a business can do by working with its utility to implement PSC-approved, cost-effective conservation programs.
“The PSC is pleased to recognize XYMOGEN, a company most deserving of our inaugural award,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “We applaud their outstanding work and energy efficiency accomplishments and hope other small businesses will follow suit, working with their local utility to help reduce their energy footprint.”
Brian Blackburn, XYMOGEN’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “Duke Energy Florida was instrumental in helping us design a sustainable building, and our reduction in electric bills allowed us to further develop our business plan. We’re proud to accept this award and look forward to sharing our experiences with others wanting to use energy efficiency as a way to grow their business.”
“Helping our customers use energy wisely is an important focus for Duke Energy Florida and will help meet Florida’s long-term energy needs,” said Alex Glenn, DEF President. “Since 1981, our customers and the environment have greatly benefitted from our many PSC-approved energy-efficiency programs.”
The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity. Through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, the PSC approves conservation programs for the state’s five investor-owned utilities, JEA, and the Orlando Utilities Commission.
Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC will recognize a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency with its Triple E Award. Look for PSC Triple E Award recipients throughout 2014 under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage, www.floridapsc.com.
