The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) today approved Peoples Gas System’s special contract with United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) to provide natural gas to a planned UPS compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station for its Orlando fleet.
“Encouraging natural gas use to reduce businesses’ transportation costs is beneficial to Florida’s economy and its environment,” said PSC Chairman Julie Brown. “We commend Peoples for assisting UPS’s investment in its alternative fuel vehicle program, especially since the contract also benefits all of Peoples’ customers.”
UPS currently has a fleet of 5,400 vehicles operating on alternative fuels and advanced technology, and it continues to build CNG stations across the country. The proposed Orlando facility will initially serve 30 vehicles with future expansion available.
Annually, the 30 CNG fueled vehicles will displace the use of 700,000 gallons of traditional fuels. The 10-year contract term can be extended for an additional five years upon mutual agreement by Peoples and UPS.
