Billy Bones of Panama City Beach Receives PSC’s Triple E Award

TALLAHASSEE — Though promising a swashbuckling good time and a treasure trove of good food, Panama City Beach’s (PCB) Billy Bones restaurant is being recognized this month for another reason. The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is awarding the new restaurant with its May Triple E Award—for implementing Energy Efficiency Efforts during construction.

“Billy Bones serves an eclectic menu of barbecue and seafood at prices families can afford, partly because the restaurant owner is energy conscious,” said PSC Chairman Julie Brown. “We commend them for slashing monthly utility costs to benefit customers and wish them well in serving the PCB community.”

“We’re happy to receive this award as we savor our energy efficiency savings!  In our fast-casual environment, we strive for excellence in all areas, and energy efficiency helps us keep meal costs affordable,” said David Hollinger, restaurant owner.  “Gulf Power’s cost-effective recommendations not only helped with our investment, but also helped increase customer comfort and provide better lighting, so we expect more repeat business!”

“Gulf Power worked closely with Mr. Hollinger throughout the year-long construction process, and we’re pleased he incorporated our recommended lighting and energy efficiency enhancements,” said Natalie Smith, Gulf Power spokesperson.  “From the LED lighting fixtures inside and outside the restaurant to the high-efficiency heat pump units and metal reflective roof, Billy Bones is proof that upfront energy efficiency designs can lead to major leaps in overall business savings.”

Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC presents its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency.  Look for past PSC Triple E Award recipients under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage, www.floridapsc.com. The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act.
