Far Out Designs in Seminole Receives PSC’s Triple E Award

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission is awarding its June Triple E Award—for implementing Energy Efficiency Efforts—to Seminole’s Far Out Design Inc., a company specializing in mobile technology.  Their mobile service is efficient for customers, and their energy efficiency keeps them mobile!

“Far Out Design Inc. can plug into all circuits and is energy efficient to boot,” said PSC Chairman Julie Brown. “We applaud these circuitry experts for being easily accessible to their customers, while also renovating their new offices with a variety of energy efficient measures that cut energy costs and save customers money.”

Established in 2004, Far Out Design has steadily grown from a part-time job to a thriving small business that is also thriving in energy efficiency, working closely with Duke Energy Florida, LLC (DEF) on their new home base, FeldTech Center, LLC.  Company owners recently removed all antiquated fluorescent and incandescent lighting and installed new efficient LED fixtures.  They also installed an electric vehicle charging station and reinsulated the entire office building.

“We’re happy to receive this award!  With a name like Far Out Designs, we’d better be on the cutting edge of all technologies, including energy efficiency,” said owner Curtis Jarvis.  “Our motto is ‘If it has a circuit, we can work it,’ and we know we can do ‘a lot’ more for customers if we first save ‘a watt’ on our energy costs.”

FeldTech Center owner, Forrest Feld, notes, “The Center is very excited to present classes on energy-efficient technologies so that people can learn more about implementing money and environment-saving efficiencies for their homes and offices. Of course, we also repair computers and state-of-the-art electronics.”

Far Out Design is also working with DEF to replace its HVAC systems with high efficiency heat pumps (15 SEER with an HSPF of 8.2).  “Far Out Design’s efforts provide a great example of how, regardless of size, any business can create significant energy savings through creativity and a culture of sustainability,” said Alex Glenn, Duke Energy state president – Florida.  “We’re happy this company has joined the many other small businesses that we help manage  energy use and reduce electric costs.”

Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC presents its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency.  Look for past PSC Triple E Award recipients under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage, www.floridapsc.com. The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act.
