The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) this month is awarding its Triple E Award--for Energy Efficiency Effort--to La Giraldilla Tampa for demonstrating “E” for effort in using cost-effective energy efficiency. The renowned restaurant represents what a business can do by working with its utility to implement PSC-approved, cost-effective conservation programs.
“The PSC is pleased to recognize La Giraldilla Tampa for its efforts to achieve significant energy savings through insulation and duct seal programs,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “Restaurants have massive energy costs, from air conditioning and lighting to cooking and refrigeration. We applaud owners Yanelquis and Erick Diego De La Torre for their environmental awareness and energy efficiency endeavors and hope other small businesses will follow suit, working with their local utility to help reduce their energy footprint.”
De La Torre said, “We’re very proud of our energy-savings success after Tampa Electric Company (TECO) repaired and sealed leaks in our ductwork, helping us save overhead costs so we can concentrate on our delicious cuisine and better serving our patrons. We’re proud to accept this award and look forward to sharing our experiences with other restaurants wanting to lower their energy costs.”
“For nearly 40 years, Tampa Electric has offered energy-efficiency programs,” said Gordon Gillette, president of TECO. “We are pleased that customers – especially small businesses – are taking advantage of our many programs and are getting results that make a positive impact to their bottom line.”
The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity. Through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, the PSC approves conservation programs for the state’s five investor-owned utilities, JEA, and the Orlando Utilities Commission.
Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC will give its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency. Look for PSC Triple E Award recipients throughout 2014 under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage, www.floridapsc.com.
