Known for its urban chic ambiance, Tampa’s Epicurean Hotel is dedicated to making its distinctive boutique-style hotel also energy efficient. To recognize this, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is presenting the hotel with its December Triple E Award—for Energy Efficiency Efforts. Opened three years ago, the hotel was developed in collaboration with Mainsail Lodging & Development and Tampa’s legendary Bern’s Steak House.
“The Epicurean Hotel was the first newly constructed hotel property in the United States to join the prestigious Autograph Collection of Marriott International, Inc. for the thoughtfulness of its design,” said PSC Chairman Julie Brown. “Equally important to the hotel’s unique brand is its focus on energy efficiency, which benefits its guests in a variety of ways.”
Epicurean Hotel recently participated in Tampa Electric Co.’s Commercial Conditioned Space Lighting Rebate Program. The hotel’s compact fluorescent lamps earned a $2,530 rebate, with a projected 130,981 kWh annual savings. In addition, Tampa Electric completed an energy audit for the hotel last spring and recommended other rebate and conservation programs.
“We anticipate saving $13,622 in annual electric costs, and our energy efficiency project is reducing greenhouse gases (79.9 tons of CO2, 259.3 lbs. in NOx, and 416.5 lbs. in Sox), greatly benefitting the environment,” said Donald Rook, Hotel Facilities Manager. “Our energy efficiency investments today will mean greater savings for years to come.”
“The actions taken by the team at Epicurean Hotel have not only benefitted its business, but also the environment,” said Gordon Gillette, president and chief executive officer of Tampa Electric. “We are pleased that customers of all types and sizes are taking advantage of our many programs – and seeing such great results.”
Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC presents its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency. The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act.
