Highland Lakes Homeowners Association Named PSC’s Triple E Winner

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is awarding its February Triple E Award—for Energy Efficiency Effort—to Highland Lakes Homeowners Association (HLHOA). HLHOA leaders have demonstrated “E” for effort by implementing energy efficient measures on its property to save energy and reduce costs.

“We are pleased to recognize Highland Lakes and homeowner Ken Listle, former Chairman of the Energy Conservation Committee, for implementing PSC-approved, cost-effective conservation programs,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “With newly installed demand control ventilation, energy efficient small heat pumps, and upgraded lighting and ceiling insulation, residents of the beautiful Lake Tarpon property enjoy an energy efficient, low-maintenance lifestyle. We hope other associations and small businesses will follow suit, working with their local utility to help reduce their energy footprint.”

“Our association knows that going green can also mean saving green for our members. I’m proud that we are cutting energy costs because it’s both economical and environmentally-friendly,” said Listle. “We’ve worked hard to implement successful energy efficient measures. We’re thrilled to receive this award and appreciate Duke Energy Florida Inc.’s assistance in helping HLHOA save more than 60,000 kilowatt-hours annually.”

“DEF’s Commercial Energy Efficiency Program has helped numerous small businesses, such as HLHOA, save energy and cut costs,” said Melissa Seixas, DEF Community and Government Relations Manager. “We understand that controlling expenses, particularly in buildings like Highland Lakes' large clubhouse, is important to a community association trying to hold down membership costs. We’re proud of Mr. Listle’s firm commitment to implementing energy efficient measures wherever possible and, in turn, helping the homeowners save money.”

The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity. Through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, the PSC approves conservation programs for the state’s five investor-owned utilities, JEA, and the Orlando Utilities Commission.

Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC gives its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency. Look for PSC Triple E Award recipients throughout 2015 under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage, http://www.floridapsc.com/.
