Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) is recognizing the Leon County School Board as a PSC Helping Hand for helping raise awareness about the Lifeline Assistance telephone discount program and for promoting energy and water conservation student education.
“We’re pleased to have partnered with Leon County schools to present plays that encourage students to conserve energy and think about preserving water for our future,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “School Board members have also helped us distribute Lifeline information to parents needing help on their monthly phone bills.”
Begun last year, each month the PSC highlights a partner agency or organization that can reach residents who may be eligible for the federal Lifeline Assistance program and/or may need help curbing energy and water bills. Through these PSC Helping Hand partnerships, the Commission shares vital information to help consumers meet their monthly bills.
“We’ve enjoyed working with the PSC and are pleased to be named a PSC Helping Hand,” said Forrest Van Camp, Chairman, Leon County School Board. “The Lifeline program has helped parents stay connected to their children’s teachers, and we appreciate when PSC Commissioners visit our schools to share the importance of energy and water conservation.
“The PSC’s conservation plays have helped educate students in a fun, constructive way,” Chairman Van Camp continued. “Hopefully, students practice what they’ve learned at home, so their parents and families also acquire conservation habits that lower utility bills and preserve resources.”
