DCF’s Refugee Services Program Named PSC Helping Hand

Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) is recognizing the Department of Children and Families’ (DCF) Central Region-Refugee Services Program as a PSC Helping Hand for helping raise public awareness about the Lifeline Assistance telephone discount program, energy and water conservation, and utility impersonation scams.

“We appreciate Pedro Padua and DCF’s Central-Refugee Services Program assisting us in sharing information to educate and protect their clients,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “Through Mr. Padua’s help, we distribute our Lifeline, scam protection, and conservation materials to refugees to help them as they work toward economic self-sufficiency within the shortest possible time after their arrival in Florida.”

Each month, the PSC highlights a partner agency or organizations whose clients are eligible for the federal Lifeline program or need help reducing energy and water bills and recognizing energy-related scams. Through PSC Helping Hand partnerships, the Commission shares vital information to protect consumers and help stretch their resources to meet their monthly bills.

“We are pleased to be recognized as a PSC Helping Hand, and we appreciate the PSC being a part of DCF’s Community Fair during last year’s World Refugee Day in Central Florida,” said Padua.
