It’s back to school time, and the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is presenting its August Triple E Award—for Energy Efficiency Effort—to Tampa’s Berkeley Preparatory School. School leaders have earned an A+ by participating in Tampa Electric Company’s (TECO) Commercial Cool Roof Rebate program.
“Kids are heading back to school, and it’s a new semester to become more energy efficient,” said PSC Chairman Graham. “Administrators struggling with high power and gas bills can turn to their local utilities for advice and expertise in reducing those costs. Often times, a few cost effective upgrades can help aging facilities pass the energy efficiency test.”
“We’re honored to receive this award and are also pleased with the high energy efficiency score,” said Mike Steger, Berkeley’s Facilities Management Director. “We received over $6,000 in rebates on two separate buildings with a total savings of 68,253 kWh, equaling $6,825.30 in projected annual electric cost savings.”
“Our certified energy analysts have a long history of working with both private and public schools to help manage energy costs and create favorable learning environments,” said Gordon Gillette, president of Tampa Electric. “In addition to the Cool Roof program, we offer nearly 40 energy-saving programs that help our customers use energy wisely. We’re proud to partner with the leadership at Tampa’s Berkeley Preparatory School to save energy and provide students and staff with a comfortable learning environment.”
The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity. Through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, the PSC approves conservation programs for the state’s five investor-owned utilities, JEA, and the Orlando Utilities Commission.
Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC gives its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency. Look for PSC Triple E Award recipients throughout 2015 under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage, http://www.floridapsc.com/.
