Portion of Babcock Ranch Water Territory Transferred to State of Florida and Lee County
TALLAHASSEE —
The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved the transfer of a portion of the water facilities and territory from Town and Country Utilities Company to the State of Florida and Lee County.
Town and Country Utilities Company provides water service to Babcock Ranch which is located in Charlotte and Lee counties. The utility will continue providing service to the remaining privately owned property.
In November 2005, an agreement was reached for the State and Lee County to purchase more than 73,000 acres of the ranch. This acquisition is the largest single monetary expenditure by the State to acquire land for preservation purposes.
