The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is encouraging consumers to take advantage of the tax savings available on qualifying purchases during Energy Efficiency Week, October 5-11.
Consumers purchasing appliances and other products that meet certain efficiency guidelines during Energy Efficiency Week will pay no sales tax on those items. Qualifying products include dishwashers, washers, air conditioners, ceiling fans, incandescent or fluorescent light bulbs, dehumidifiers, programmable thermostats, or refrigerators that meet or exceed the federal Energy Star Program requirements. The Energy Star label appears on the product or product packaging. This opportunity is for residential consumers purchasing new items with a selling price of $1,500 or less per product.
In addition, all five investor-owned utilities and many municipal electric providers offer home energy audits and provide rebates for the installation of certain energy efficient appliances. These audits provide an analysis of a home’s energy consumption and suggest cost-effective energy-saving improvements. Each utility can provide additional information regarding audits, rebates, and energy conservation measures available in its service area.
