Florida Public Service Commission Makes a TECO Conservation Program Permanent

TALLAHASSEE — The Public Service Commission today approved a conservation program for Tampa Electric Company (TECO) that allows consumers to make energy use decisions based on energy price signals.

Program participants use a programmable thermostat, provided by the company at no charge, that controls the operation of certain appliances. Based upon price signals to equipment installed in the home sent by TECO, customers can then shift their energy usage to lower their electric bills.

“The program helps consumers better understand and manage their energy use,” said PSC Chairman Lisa Polak Edgar.

The PSC is committed to making sure that Florida's consumers receive their electric, natural gas, telephone, water, and wastewater services in a safe, affordable, and reliable manner. The PSC exercises regulatory authority over utilities in the areas of rate base/economic regulation; competitive market oversight; and monitoring of safety, reliability, and service.
