Customer Service Hearing Set for FPUC Rate Request in Fernandina Beach

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct a customer service hearing on Thursday, December 6, 2007, in Fernandina Beach for customers of Florida Public Utilities Company (FPUC). The utility provides service to approximately 15,670 customers on Amelia Island and has applied for an increase in its electric rates. The utility’s last full rate case was in 2004.

FPUC is requesting a rate change to recover increasing operating costs, including insurance, pensions, maintenance and replacement, and regulatory compliance at the state and federal levels.

Under FPUC’s proposal, a residential customer using 1,000 kwh will pay $103.20. The total monthly electric bill for residential customers using 1,000 kwh is currently $91.56, based on interim rates.


The hearing allows customers to comment on the proposed rate increases and any quality-of-service issues relevant to the utility.  Customers are invited to attend the hearing at the following time and location:
