TALLAHASSEE —
The members and staff of the Florida Public Service Commission will
conduct two customer service hearings in Southwest Florida Wednesday April 6, 2005, to provide consumers an opportunity to comment on a request by Florida
Power & Light, Inc. (FP&L) to recover costs associated with the 2004 hurricane
season.
The company is seeking permission to recover $533 million from its 4.2
million Florida customers. According to company's estimates, total
damage from hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne was $998 million. Insurance
reimbursements totaling $108 million are deducted from the total as is $354
million that was held in a special reserve fund specifically to repair
storm-related damages. The $533 million balance is the amount the
utility seeks to recover.
