PSC Customer Service Hearings Set for Progress Rate Request in Live Oak

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct a customer service hearing on Thursday, July 9, 2009, for customers of Progress Energy Florida, Inc. (Progress).  In March, Progress filed a petition with the PSC for an increase to its base rates.

This month, a 1,000 kwh monthly bill for residential customers is $122.79.  Using Progress’ proposal, a typical 1,000 kwh monthly bill for residential customers would increase to $135.79 in 2010.  Progress provides electric service to approximately 1.6 million retail customers in 35 Florida counties.

The hearing allows customers to comment on the proposed rates and any quality-of-service issues relevant to the utility.  Customers are invited to attend the hearing at the following time and location:

Thursday, July 9, 2009
10:00 a.m.

Live Oak City Hall
Council Chambers
101 White Ave. S.E.
Live Oak, Florida

The PSC is committed to making sure that Florida's consumers receive their electric, natural gas, telephone, water, and wastewater services in a safe, affordable, and reliable manner. The PSC exercises regulatory authority over utilities in the areas of rate base/economic regulation; competitive market oversight; and monitoring of safety, reliability, and service.
