The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) today approved Aqua Utilities Florida, Inc.’s (AUF) Residential Wastewater Only (RWO) rate designed to accurately reflect customers’ usage, including those using water from private water wells for potable water service.
AUF said it could not calculate wastewater bills for customers installing private water wells for potable water service, since wastewater bills are based upon metered water consumption. When customers use private wells for indoor water, and no longer use AUF’s meter, the company removes the meter for safety reasons.
Based on average residential wastewater consumption within each rate band, the PSC’s approved RWO rates are $44.40 for rate band one, and $61.84 for rate band two. The PSC most recently established AUF’s water and wastewater rate structure and rates in 2012. In its order, the PSC approved a revision to AUF’s capband rate structure, resulting in two residential wastewater rate bands, RWO rates for service areas with existing RWO customers and one rate band for general service only wastewater customers.
Today’s Commission decision resolves AUF’s billing for residential wastewater customers with a private well for indoor use. AUF, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aqua America, Inc., provides water and wastewater service to 58 water and 27 wastewater systems in 17 counties under PSC jurisdiction.
